NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course
Someone has to be the calm on the line. Train to be that person.
Every safe range has one thing in common: a trained Range Safety Officer who knows the rules, sees the problem before it happens, and acts without hesitation. The NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. At Yasuke Arms it is taught by an NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officer, the credential NRA requires to teach the live course.
Who This Is For
-
Shooters who want to serve as a Range Safety Officer at a club, private range, competition, or training organization
-
Instructors, coaches, and training staff who need a nationally recognized range safety credential
-
Current NRA Range Safety Officers who want a live, instructor-led refresher with hands-on range exercises
-
Anyone who wants the discipline and situational awareness that come from learning to run a firing line
No prior NRA certification is required. Per Yasuke Arms policy, students must hold an active License to Carry issued by their state of residence; non-resident licenses are not accepted. Not licensed yet? Complete our NRA Basic Pistol / Texas LTC course or LTC In-Person Shooting Qualification first. Minimum age: 18.
Course Format
Nine hours, combining classroom instruction with practical exercises conducted on a range. This is a non-shooting course: there is no dry-fire or live-fire shooting.
What You Will Learn
-
The roles and responsibilities of a Range Safety Officer
-
Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
-
Range inspection and range rules
-
Firearm stoppages and malfunctions: recognizing them and directing safe resolution on the line
-

Practical exercises put you on the range applying what you’ve learned: conducting inspections, delivering safety briefings, and managing the line under supervision.
Certification
To become an NRA Range Safety Officer, students must pass the RSO course and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

Per Yasuke Arms policy, students have one attempt at the NRA RSO written exam.
