NRA Basic Pistol / Texas LTC - In Person

Build Your Handgun Foundation

Complete your Texas LTC training.

The Yasuke Arms NRA Basic Pistol / Texas LTC program is designed for students who want more than simply meeting a licensing requirement.

This structured program combines foundational handgun education with the Texas License to Carry training process, giving newer shooters the opportunity to develop safe firearm handling and shooting fundamentals before completing the Texas LTC handgun proficiency requirement.

Course Price

$300.00 per person

Two Programs. Two Distinct Standards.

One structured path.

The NRA Basic Pistol course and the Texas License to Carry program are separate training programs with separate objectives, curriculum requirements, and shooting standards.

Successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol shooting component does not replace the Texas DPS handgun proficiency demonstration.

Yasuke Arms structures the combined program so students receive the applicable NRA instruction and separately complete the Texas LTC classroom instruction, written examination, range instruction, and handgun proficiency requirements.

Your Two-Day Training Program

Day 1 — NRA Pistol Basics

Day 1 provides foundational handgun instruction designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safe and responsible pistol use.

Training topics include:

  • Firearm safety

  • Safe handgun handling

  • Operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols

  • Ammunition knowledge

  • Pistol selection and safe storage

  • Fundamentals of pistol shooting

  • Safe loading and unloading

  • Inspection and maintenance

  • Range procedures

  • Live-fire exercises

  • Applicable NRA shooting qualification

Students who successfully satisfy the applicable NRA course requirements receive the appropriate NRA Basic Pistol course completion documentation.

Day 2 — Texas LTC Training

Day 2 addresses the Texas DPS-required License to Carry curriculum, written examination, required range instruction, and handgun proficiency demonstration.

Texas LTC classroom topics include:

  • Laws relating to weapons and the use of deadly force

  • Handgun use and safety, including the use of restraint holsters and methods designed to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns

  • Non-violent dispute resolution

  • Proper handgun storage practices, with emphasis on preventing accidental injury to children

The Texas LTC handgun proficiency demonstration is administered separately from the NRA Basic Pistol shooting qualification.

RSD Connect and Your Application

Important 2026 Update

Texas DPS now uses RSD Connect.

Effective October 1, 2026, Texas DPS transitioned License to Carry licensing services to RSD Connect.

RSD Connect is now used for original LTC applications, renewals, licensing status, and applicable handgun licensing functions.

Under the current Texas DPS process, students do not receive separate training documentation for completing LTC classroom and/or handgun proficiency training.

Applicable Texas LTC training results are entered into the student’s RSD Connect account by the Texas Qualified LTC Instructor. Students should follow the current Texas DPS and RSD Connect instructions rather than older procedures directing applicants to upload or mail an LTC training certificate.

Before You Apply

Review the new Texas DPS process.

Yasuke Arms has prepared updated resources and checklists to help students understand RSD Connect and the current Texas LTC process.

Yasuke Arms resource articles include links to relevant Texas DPS pages for authoritative licensing information.

Your Texas LTC Path

  1. Complete your training. Complete the required Texas LTC classroom instruction, written examination, range instruction, and handgun proficiency demonstration through the Yasuke Arms combined program.

  2. Apply through Texas DPS RSD Connect. After successfully completing the required Texas LTC training, submit your original LTC application through RSD Connect.

  3. Complete fingerprinting. After submitting the application, follow the Texas DPS instructions for scheduling your fingerprint appointment and providing any additional documentation required for your circumstances.

  4. Texas DPS reviews your application. Texas DPS determines applicant eligibility and makes the final decision regarding issuance of a Texas License to Carry.
